Balletcore Outfit Ideas for 2026: 12 Looks Built From the Shoes Up

Romy Lace-Up Ballet Flats by Lil Cacti — vegan ballet flat, angled three-quarter view

Balletcore is dressing borrowed from the rehearsal studio rather than the stage: wrap cardigans, leotard necklines, sheer tights, ribbons, satin, soft pink and black, and above all the shoe. Is it still in style in 2026? Yes, but it has changed. The 2023 version was tulle and pink; the 2026 version is black, gray and cream, with the ballet reference concentrated in the shoe and one soft layer. Which is why this guide is built from the shoes up.

Miu Miu made the satin ballerina the trend's origin shoe, Sandy Liang gave it bows and downtown credibility, Simone Rocha added pearls and drama, and Repetto has been the actual studio shoe since 1947. Every guide to balletcore treats shoes as one line item. Here each outfit starts with a specific shoe of ours, photographed on foot, and builds up.

The palette and the fabrics

Black is the base. Cream and gray do the daytime work. One blush piece, a satin flat or a pink tight, is the maximum pink in an outfit. Fabrics: satin, sheer nylon, fine merino, ribbed cotton, soft crinkled vegan leather. Tulle is allowed once, in a skirt, with everything else plain.

12 balletcore outfits, from the shoe up

1. Ribbon flat (Mara) + sheer black tights + black wool mini + wrap cardigan

The most literal ballet reference and the most wearable. The wraps up the ankle are the ribbon; the cardigan is the studio layer.

Straps wound up the ankle over sheer tights: the ribbon flat that starts the whole aesthetic.

Swap the tights for ribbed leg warmers stacked at the ankle and you have the studio version of the same outfit.

2. Lace-up flat (Romy) + ribbed gray socks + gray pleated midi + black leotard-neck knit

The sporty-studio version. Front laces, a fine rib sock, pleats that move, a high-neck fitted knit.

3. Mary jane (Iselle) + frilly white ankle socks + black slip skirt + cream cardigan

The coquette branch. The frill is allowed because the shoe strap frames it.

4. Tabi flat (Elodie) + baby-blue sheer tights + gray knit dress

The split toe is balletcore's newest recruit; a cord laced across the vamp makes the connection explicit. Color through the tights.

5. Ballet sneaker (Velvet Barre) + black leggings + oversized gray sweatshirt

The "walking to class" outfit. A pleated satin-look upper on a chunky sole with crossed straps: the ballet slipper rebuilt as a sneaker.

6. Lace flat (Florence) + bare leg + black satin midi slip + fine black knit

Evening balletcore. Sheer floral lace and micro sequins on the foot, satin on the body, nothing else.

7. Strap flat (Vivra) + sheer black socks + cream wide-leg trousers + black tank

Minimal balletcore: the flat's fine strap and the sheer sock are the only references.

A fine strap and a sheer sock: the quietest version of the trend.

8. Satin tabi (Rosie) + all-cream + blush knit

The one pink. A blush satin split-toe flat with a knotted bow, cream trousers, a blush knit that matches the shoe exactly.

9. Mary jane pump (Margot) + sheer gray tights + black tulle midi + black blazer

Tulle, once, and it works because the blazer and the pump are severe. The scrunchie-soft elastic strap on Margot is a ballet detail on a heel.

10. Mesh flat + bare leg + white shirt dress

11. Ribbon heel (Prima) + satin trousers + camisole (evening)

12. Tabi mary jane (Lena) + argyle sheer tights + camel skirt + cream knit

Balletcore meets preppy: a single strap over a fine argyle, camel and cream above.

The sock and tights matrix for balletcore shoes

Shoe Sock or tight
Ribbon and ankle-wrap flats Sheer tights only; socks bunch under wraps
Front-laced flats and ballet sneakers Fine ribbed crew
Mary janes Frilled ankle sock, contrast crew, or sheer or argyle tights
Tabi flats Split-toe socks or sheer tights
Lace and mesh flats Bare or 8-denier sheer
Satin heels Bare

How to wear balletcore without looking like you are in costume

  • One ballet reference per outfit besides the shoe: a wrap cardigan, or a leotard neckline, or tulle. Not all three.
  • Keep the palette to black, gray, cream and one blush piece.
  • Let tailoring or denim carry half the outfit. A blazer over a satin slip is balletcore; a tutu over a leotard is a recital.
  • Choose the shoe for the day: flats and sneakers for daytime, lace and satin for evening.

Sizing note across the styles

All our flats run true to EU size. Ankle-wrap styles can be taken a half size down if between, because the straps hold the foot; patent and satin have less give, so go up; mary janes and tabis, size for the toe. Details in the sizing guide.

Miu Miu, Sandy Liang, Simone Rocha, Repetto and us

Miu Miu's satin ballerinas ($950) are the trend's origin; Sandy Liang's bow flats and her Salomon collaborations ($300 to $500) gave it a downtown uniform; Simone Rocha's pearl-trimmed flats ($700 and up) are the dramatic version; Repetto's Cendrillon ($400) is the real studio shoe. Ours are vegan, $47 to $88, and cover every shape in the outfits above, including the split-toe versions nobody else makes.

Frequently asked questions

Is balletcore still in style in 2026?

Yes. It has moved from a pink, tulle-heavy trend to a wardrobe language: ballet flats, mary janes, sheer tights, wrap knits and satin in black, gray and cream.

What shoes are balletcore?

Ribbon and lace-up ballet flats, mary janes, satin flats, lace and mesh flats, ballet sneakers, and increasingly tabi split-toe flats. Anything with a low vamp, a soft upper and a bow or strap.

What colors are balletcore?

Black, blush pink, cream, gray and white. In 2026, black and gray dominate with one blush piece.

How do you wear balletcore to work?

A ballet flat or mary jane, sheer black tights, a midi skirt or cigarette trouser, a fine knit and a blazer. The shoe carries the reference.

Can you wear balletcore in winter?

Yes: opaque tights, wool minis, big cardigans, a wool coat, and ballet flats or tabi boots with split-toe socks.
