Tights & Socks
Tights & Socks
The layer that changes an outfit without replacing any of it. Sheer tights and argyle tights to wear under skirts, dresses and shorts, the sheer socks and split toe socks that make flats work in colder months, and the leg warmers that finish a balletcore outfit.
Sheer tights
Baby Blue Sheer Tights do what a black opaque never will: they add a color without adding weight. Pair them with a black flat and a darker skirt and the tights become the whole point of the outfit.
Argyle tights
Rowan Argyle Sheer Tights bring a pattern that reads as preppy from far away and considerably stranger up close. Argyle tights work best when the rest of the outfit is plain: a solid skirt, a solid knit, and let the legs do the talking.
Sheer socks
Aeris Sheer Mesh Socks are the sock version of a sheer tight: an open mesh knit to mid-calf with a divided toe, in black, gray, white and light blue. Under ballet flats, loafers and low boots, the ankle shows through.
Tabi socks
Ribbed Crew Tabi Socks are the split toe socks that tabi shoes are built for: ribbed, crew height, three colors, one size. With a no show version and a knee high version. They have their own page: tabi socks.
Leg warmers
Bettina Knitted Leg Warmers are ribbed so they stack at the ankle, with a drawstring at the top so they stay put. Over a strap flat with a bare knee is the formula; under boots is the practical version.
How to wear them
Sheer tights with mary janes and a pleated skirt. Argyle with a plain shift dress. Sheer socks with a platform loafer. All of them work with tabi heels and tabi flats: the split toe sits cleanly over a sheer layer. The full matrix is in how to wear ballet flats with socks.
Finish the look with balletcore flats or mary jane flats.
