No shoe under $90 will match a Birkenstock Boston's contoured footbed, and we do not make that footbed or a suede or leather upper. What we do make is part of the look: a chunky closed clog or loafer, or an easy slip-on, in vegan materials from $37.99 to $88.99. Treat this as a guide to the Boston's silhouette, not its footbed.
The Birkenstock Boston lists at about $154.95 in suede and about $169.95 in the Soft Footbed versions, based on birkenstock.com in October 2026, when some colors were marked down 35% to about $110.47. Birkenstock also sells a vegan Boston at about $120. Many Boston dupe lists are a single flat row of clogs, often with undated prices and little on sizing. This guide sorts alternatives by silhouette, says what each shares with the Boston and what it does not, and tells you when to skip us and buy the real pair.

Boston clog dupe alternatives: the platform clog and the platform loafer
The Boston is a closed-toe clog with a strap behind the heel. Maren is the nearest thing we make: a round toe cut wide enough to stand in, a thick squared-off sole and a thin back strap, in black vegan leather with a smooth finish. That thick sole is more in the spirit of Birkenstock's Boston Chunky, about $155 with a 1.25 inch (about 30 mm) platform, than of the classic Boston. Our clog styling guide covers outfits.

Maren Platform Slingback Clogs
The nearest to the clog shape: round toe, thick squared-off sole, thin back strap. $88.99.
Talia swaps the clog for a loafer but keeps the slab sole and a plain, rounded upper with no tassel or strap. Its product page says it is cut to be worn with a visible sock, ribbed or sheer.

Talia Platform Loafers
A plain platform loafer where the toe and the sole are the whole look. $68.99.
Birkenstock clog dupe options that slip on and off: mules
Part of the Boston's appeal is stepping straight into it. A mule keeps that habit and drops the clog shape, so these are alternatives to the ease, not the silhouette. Our mule styling guide has outfit ideas.

Belvra Buckle Mule Heels
Backless, with one wide buckle strap, an open square toe and a low block heel of about 4 to 5 cm. $58.99.

Tavora Tabi Block Heel Mules
The mule that keeps a closed front: split-toe tabi vamp, open back, mid-height block heel. $78.99.

Vex Lace-Up Heel Mules
The statement pick and the least Boston-like: vegan patent lace-up cage, pointed toe, cutout heel. $76.99.
Jelly mules and thong sandals for open-toe days
These two share only the no-fuss, step-in ease. Neither has a clog's closed toe, and neither pretends to.

Amara Jelly Mule
Slip-on peep toe with a twisted knot and a low tapered kitten heel; colors include black and brown. $69.99.

Mirage Thong Sandals
A glossy translucent thong strap on a square-toe footbed with a low flared heel; the cheapest pair here. $37.99.
Loafers and tabi loafers: the closed toe without the clog
A loafer shares the Boston's closed toe and slip-on ease, has no heel strap, and sits lower than a platform clog. The tabi versions add a split toe; for how they fit, read our tabi sizing guide.

Perrine Pleated Loafers
A vegan patent loafer with a gathered apron and a penny strap, the dressiest closed slip-on here. $72.99.

Ashen Tabi Loafers
Plain black split-toe loafer with a flat sole and no hardware. $68.99.

Rue Black Tabi Loafers
The same split toe with a monk strap, contrast stitching and a low stacked heel. $72.99.
Birkenstock Boston vs dupe: the honest comparison
| Brand and style | Price (checked Oct 2026) | Upper | Footbed and sizing | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Birkenstock Boston, suede or oiled leather | About $154.95 to $169.95; some colors about $110.47 on sale | Animal leather | Suede footbed lining, plus a latex foam layer in Soft Footbed; two widths | The original; not vegan |
| Birkenstock Boston Vegan | About $120 | Synthetic nubuck-look, no animal-derived materials per Birkenstock | Cork-latex footbed, microfiber lining; same two widths | The only Boston Birkenstock labels vegan |
| Crocs Classic Clog and platform styles | About $49.99 (Classic), about $64.99 (Dylan Platform) | Croslite foam; check each style, some use leather | Unisex whole sizes, roomy forefoot; no cork footbed | A foam clog, a different look |
| Cushionaire Hana | About $44.99 | Third-party sources describe a vegan-leather upper with a real suede insole; the brand page does not say | Cork footbed per the product name; Medium and Wide | Likely not fully vegan |
| Lil Cacti, styles in this guide | $37.99 to $88.99 | Vegan | No cork or contoured footbed; EU 34 to 41, no widths | Free shipping on US orders over $90 |
Other brands' prices are approximate and change often, so check the retailer before you buy.
Birkenstock does several things better than we do: two widths, a long size run, real suede and leather, and a vegan Boston at about $120 with a cork-latex footbed, which ours do not have. Crocs is a lower-priced way into a clog and has a platform line. Cushionaire's Hana is described as a cork-footbed clog at about $44.99, with width choices. Where we fit is the gap around them: vegan uppers, and shapes outside the Boston family such as tabi loafers and heeled mules.
Are Birkenstock dupes worth it? Who should still buy the real Boston
Buy the Birkenstock if you already know its footbed works for your feet and will wear one pair most days, if you need a width option, or if you want real suede or leather. If you want it vegan and want the Boston shape itself, the Boston Vegan at about $120 is a closer match than anything we sell.
Choose an alternative here if you want the silhouette for a season or an outfit, want to spend under $90, or want a shape the Boston does not come in, like a heeled mule or a split-toe loafer. We would rather you buy the right shoe than the wrong one from us.
Is the Birkenstock Boston vegan?
Only one version is. The Boston Vegan has a synthetic nubuck-look upper and a cork-latex footbed with a microfiber lining, and Birkenstock's page says it uses no animal-derived materials. The suede and oiled leather Bostons are animal materials, and the shearling versions are lined with sheep or lambskin. Everything we make is vegan, just without a cork footbed.
Birkenstock Boston sizing and fit, and ours
Birkenstock sells the Boston in Regular/Wide and Medium/Narrow widths, in women's US 4 to 12.5 (EU 35 to 43); the Boston Chunky is Medium/Narrow only. Its fit guide says to leave about a quarter inch of room around the foot and keep the strap loose at first. It gives no size-up or size-down rule, though one fit retailer in May 2026 called the closed toe slightly snug and suggested sizing up if between sizes. Crocs are unisex and whole sizes only, so round a half size up.
Ours are listed in EU sizes with no separate width options, so measure your foot in centimeters first. These are the exact ranges and what each product page says:
| Style | EU sizes | Note on the product page |
|---|---|---|
| Maren platform clogs | 35 to 40 | None listed |
| Talia platform loafers | 34 to 40 | None listed |
| Belvra mule heels | 35 to 40 | True to size; size up if between sizes or wider-footed |
| Tavora tabi mules | 35 to 39 | None listed |
| Vex lace-up mules | 35 to 39 | None listed |
| Amara jelly mule | 36 to 41 | None listed |
| Mirage thong sandals | 36 to 41 | Size up if between sizes |
| Perrine loafers | 35 to 40 | True to size; soft upper gives slightly |
| Ashen tabi loafers | 35 to 40 | True to size; size up if between sizes or wider-footed |
| Rue tabi loafers | 35 to 40 | True to size; split toe box runs slightly narrow |
Where a page has no note, order your usual EU size and size up if you are between sizes or plan to wear thicker socks.
Caring for vegan clogs, mules and loafers
A soft damp cloth and air drying away from heat handle most marks on vegan finishes, and leather conditioners and oils are best skipped. Our guide to cleaning vegan leather shoes has the steps.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a Birkenstock dupe?
No shoe matches the Boston's footbed, but there are plenty of lookalike clogs and slip-ons. Under $90, ours cover a platform clog, loafers, mules and sandals, and Crocs and Cushionaire are the other names people compare against the Boston.
What is the best Birkenstock alternative under $100?
It depends on what you want to keep. For the clog shape in vegan materials, Maren at $88.99. For a plain closed slip-on, Talia at $68.99. For a foam clog, the Crocs Classic Clog at about $49.99 (checked October 2026). For a cork-footbed clog, Cushionaire's Hana at about $44.99, described as having a real suede insole.
Is the Birkenstock Boston vegan?
Only the Boston Vegan, at about $120, which Birkenstock describes as free of animal-derived materials. The suede, oiled leather and shearling Bostons are not vegan.
Do Birkenstock Bostons run small?
Birkenstock gives no size-up rule, but one fit retailer found the closed toe slightly snug and suggested sizing up if between sizes. Width matters too, since the Boston comes in Regular/Wide and Medium/Narrow.
Do Lil Cacti shoes have a cork footbed?
No. We do not offer a cork or contoured footbed and we do not make arch-support claims. If that footbed is what you want, buy the Birkenstock. Shipping is free on US orders over $90.
